When the audience searches a query on a search engine, different results are displayed on SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages). This begs the question, how these different results entice the audience to click on them. Ranking on top is a benefit that attracts users to click on your result and there are different techniques that you can implement to maintain top rank, but do you think that’s enough? Well, I guess not! What you really want from the audience is to click on your result and for that, you need a good piece of content that’s relevant along with the CTA (call to action) text that is placed in the meta-descriptions of the website.
But, wait, that’s not it! You can also use CTA in the form of buttons. You can place them on different ad campaigns, email ad notifications, pop-up ads, etc. CTA buttons or phrases are basically used to attract readers so that they take an intended action. After doing so, they are invited to the page that is linked to the CTA button.
Call to action texts is also used as anchor texts in a blog or content to direct users to the related topic. There are many uses of CTAs, but before going down that road you should understand what a CTA is.
In this blog, you will not only get familiar with the word CTA, but also where and how to use it. You can use CTAs in different ways to invite the users to click your website. All you need to do is to create the CTA texts or buttons in an attractive, relevant and contrasting manner. This way you will get more leads that can be converted into genuine customers in the future.
What is call to action?
A call to action (CTA) is a powerful sentence, phrase, or word that is placed in the form of a button or simple text on your ad copies, website, meta-description, email ads, pop-up ads, and on the landing page to optimize it and promote readers to take an intended action. They are placed in a prominent spot on your webpage or in meta-description. Have a look at the below given example to get clear about CTAs.
With the right usage of call to action, you can give a nudge to the users who visit your website or read your content. Some of the actions are:
- Purchase a product
- Sign up for a newsletter or article
- Go for a download
- Share a piece of content
- Checkout wide range of……
- Subscribe
- Get in touch
It is also a fact that not all call-to-action words or phrases can give you a customer. Some may be strong, powerful, and inviting; while others may be weak, boring, and unappealing.
What does a CTA mean in PPC?
There are different PPC marketing strategies like content marketing, social media marketing, email marketing, digital marketing, or PPC remarketing, which presents a chance to use CTAs to catch user’s eyes. As a marketer, writing a relevant call to action is significant for PPC ads as these are the words that are going to drive the visitors’ attention to click on the ads. In PPC ads, it is very important to create interesting and inviting call to action phrases that would invite the audiences to convert into customers, plus my suggestion is to just conduct market research before creating them so that you can get an idea of relevant CTAs that matches the product or service that you are pushing in front of the audience.
You can run a PPC campaign to create different CTAs in order to guide your audience. Below are some of their examples that can be used in various PPC ads.
In this kind of CTA, the audiences are invited to sign a free trial, an online course, an event in the future, or any kind of software that they can try on so that they can be converted into leads and then into fruitful customers. It all depends on the words of your CTA that whether the visitors will click your PPC ad or not.
- Try for free!
This call-to-action statement is used when a company has to offer a free trial of its products or services. You can create this CTA to attract the audience to the landing page so that they can avail the free products or services that you are providing. This allows the audience to have a demo of the products before investing their time and money in them.
- Let’s get started!
You can use this call-to-action phrase if you want to generate urgency in the user’s mind. This is widely used in PPC ads for lead generation as it will make the users click on the ad as soon as they read it. You can adopt this CTA sentence if you are providing a free trial, hosting a webinar, or launching a product.
- Buy now!
You can adopt this call-to-action statement if you want to plant an idea in the visitor’s mind to make a purchase right now. It revolves around creating an image in the user’s minds that they have to purchase or avail the products or services provided by your business.
- Book before it’s too late!
This call to action is used to create a sense of urgency in the user’s mind. It is a smart way to create fear in audience’s mind that they have to avail the offer offered by your website as soon as possible, and as a result, you will be awarded by a customer. The people will think that if they don’t hurry up then the offer might get slipped from their hand so they will try to make the purchase ASAP.
Regardless, there are many more call-to-action phrases like “Hurry up!”, “Few more left!” etc., that can be used in PPC ads to gain the most possible customers. However, if you are still confused while creating one for your ad, then you can hire a digital marketing agency where PPC specialists will create a CTA phrase that aligns with the services or products that you’re offering. You can also create CTAs for video ads, search ads, mobile ads, or display ads.
What does a CTA mean in SEO?
So far, we have talked about how CTA is important in PPC, but if you are a digital marketing agency and you have created a website for your client that desires to bring organic traffic to it then, in this situation you have to add a CTA sentence in meta-description. As a result, you would be able to bring more quality and organic traffic to your client’s website.
There are many techniques to rank a website on top of SERPs and increase visibility like creating an SEO plan and strategy, conducting keyword research to create awesome content, adding links to relevant anchor texts, analyzing backlinks, etc. by running an SEO campaign, but to make users click on it is the most important concern. Below given are some CTAs that can be used to bring visitors to your website.
This particular phrase is used to grab user’s attention so that they visit your website and get to know about your business or brand by reading the content related to the products or services that you’re offering.
- Read to Know More!
It is an alternative set of texts to the before mentioned CTA. This encourages visitors to come to your website and read all the information that you have to offer on a specific topic by reading the content or the blog.
- Learn More!
Another call-to-action phrase, that is used when you want to give relevant information to the potential customers so that they will be prepared to execute any action on your website.
- Join Us!
If you want to connect with the users, then you use this CTA phrase. It makes the users connect to your website directly and in this way, you get a lead that can be converted into profitable customer in the future.
Where to Place CTAs?
So, up till now, you must have gotten an idea of CTA usage. Still, above mentioned CTA is not PPC or SEO specified. It is just a suggestion that you can use while running an SEO or a PPC campaign. Basically, the main motive here is to make the users click on your website or landing page and to drive them to take intended action.
So far, we’ve discussed what CTAs are, now I’m going to discuss how you can use call to action buttons or phrases in some most common places.
- Web Page Buttons
This is the most common place where you can find the CTA button. You definitely have seen one on the websites. If you are a digital marketing agency then you can create one for your or your client’s website. The call-to-action button here is placed in such a way that it stands apart from the rest of the page. Apart from that, the button here is kept slightly big with attractive colors so that it can easily catch users’ eye and nudge them to click on it right away. This also helps in mobile optimization where the user is navigating the page with the finger instead of the mouse.
- Campaign Buttons
CTAs used in ads are crucial as you invest money in PPC, some CTA texts that are used while creating call-to-action buttons for ads are “get 50% off”, “hurry up”, “subscribe now”, “click to attend the webinar”, etc.
It is obvious that not many people are willing to read the whole information present in the PPC ads, instead when the eyes land on the button, they are excited to click it as they immediately see the advantage of doing so.
- Button in E-mails
When we talk about email marketing, creating and placing CTA buttons is a vital aspect to follow. You see these email ads every day and how perfectly the call-to-action buttons are placed in them. If you are a digital marketing agency and want to create email ads, then be mindful while creating CTA buttons. You can also use the same CTA and can boost SEO with email marketing by adding them to the emails you are sending. Hence, a perfectly crafted CTA button will bring visitors’ attention directly and will push them a bit to click on it.
- Anchor Texts in Blog Posts
You may have seen anchor texts earlier and using them as CTA texts is a great idea. It is also a great way to encourage users to go read related content, grab some information to clear their confusion; plus, if they are clicking these texts then they are also helping to rank the pages that are linked to it.
It is also a great approach to perform internal linking. Some CTAs can start from “How to….”, “Subscribe….”, etc.
You get the most benefit from these CTA texts when you ask readers to subscribe to your page or buy your products or services. You can see the below example from one of our blogs at Search Engine Digest where we are talking about outsourcing one of the SEO services providing by us.
Final Thoughts
In the above blog, I gave you an idea of CTA texts and CTA buttons that are used to grab user’s attention in order to make them click on it. There are various places where you can use these CTAs. You can either add them to your website or on pop-up ads. While creating CTAs you need to be a little careful. It should be creative, relevant, and eye catching. These buttons are used in both, either you are running an SEO or a PPC campaign. Some famous call to action phrases are “Subscribe”, “Click to buy”, “Click to know more”, “Read more to find out”, “How to do….”, etc. There is no rule where to use which CTA phrase, you can totally go according to your choice, but it should be relevant. Again, if you run a digital marketing agency then be careful while adding so on your or on the client’s website. I mean, you can’t use “Buy now!” at the place where you are not selling anything. That would be stupid and non-contextual. So, just try to use it wisely to get as much profit as you can. Hopefully after reading this blog, you will get an idea of where to use the CTAs and reap its benefits.
